Autonomous Mobile Robots Companies to benefit from Strategic Initiatives

Automation

15, December 2021

With the rising trend of industry 4.0 and smart factories, organizations are adopting autonomous mobile robots to enhance efficiency and productivity. This has ultimately surged their adoption for automotive, logistics, electronics, and other applications.

In today’s competitive business space, autonomous mobile robots are witnessing higher demand due to various beneficial features. These robots have proven to produce the most efficient solutions, from transporting material within warehouses to assisting in surgical procedures to ensuring disaster recovery. In this regard, these robots are integrated with laser scanners, 3D cameras, and tracking systems to detour any obstacle, providing higher quality output. For instance, Amazon’s Kiva plays a crucial role in the order-fulfilment process as it navigates the warehouses to locate products, bringing them to correct drop-off stations.

Experts stated that the global autonomous mobile robots market will generate around $10.21 billion by 2028, with a growth rate of 24.34% between 2021 and 2028. The surge in beneficial applications is the contributing driver, also supplementing tech companies to focus on R&D & launch innovative products in order to gain a competitive edge in the market.

Pioneering Product Launches by Top-Notch Firms are:

  • Fetch Robotics Inc:
  • The cloud robotics company announced the launch of a new case pick-to-pallet solution in collaboration with Körber. This solution is integrated with Körber’s warehouse management systems, dynamically coordinating the movement of warehouse associates and robots. In a press release, Chief Product Officer Stefan Nusser said, “Our new case picking solution enables customers to achieve safer, more efficient case picking in facilities of all sizes.”

  • Mobile Industrial Robots:
  • Known as one of the global leaders of AMRs, the company released two mobile robots in August 2021. The MiR600 and MiR1350 are eligible to lift up to 600 and 1350 kgs, respectively, to efficiently perform material handling tasks within warehouses, logistics centers, and others. “The streamlined transport provided by AMRs frees employees to carry out more value-creating activities and support processes in production while they increase shop-floor safety,” stated Søren E Nielsen, President of the company, in a press release.

  • SoftBank Robotics:
  • To meet the rising demand for safer and advanced cleaning solutions, the company, in collaboration with Avalon, introduced Whiz Gambit, a 2-in-1 AI-powered disinfection robotic solution. The product development focused on integrating Whiz, an AI cleaning mobile robot, and Gambit, a disinfection unit to target contaminated spaces across hospitals and public spaces. Additionally, estimates state that it became the first robot to attain a performance mark by SGS Hong Kong with a proven ability to eradicate microbial burden.

Apart from these contemporary launches, companies are expanding their footings by introducing their AMRs in other nations. One such example is SMP Robotics’ plan to deploy all the latest autonomous mobile robotics solutions with its new distribution partner Security Robotics Development & Solutions GmbH, in Germany.

    Future Prospects

Given the technological developments, AI technology for AMRs is majorly focused on machine learning and vision systems, which are exponentially expanding sensor-based capabilities. In fact, advances in sensor technology, cloud computing, and AI-focused processers are being made available at low costs. Such modifications can assist the employment of AMRs for autonomous last-mile delivery applications, thereby encouraging heavy investments, product developments, and launches in the autonomous mobile robots market.
